Gravity Hands at St Lawrence High School and Junior College

“Education is not only about academics; it is about shaping balanced individuals.”

With this vision, the Primary Section of St. Lawrence High School & Junior College introduced the Gravity Hand Breathing Activity — a simple yet powerful exercise that helps students pause, breathe, and center themselves amidst the demands of school life.

The activity involves placing one hand in front with fingers spread wide, while the other hand slowly traces each finger. Students breathe in as they move upward and breathe out as they move downward. After completing the breathing exercise, students traced their own palm in their books and wrote inside how they felt after the activity. This reflective step allowed them to express emotions such as calmness, happiness, and focus, reinforcing the importance of mindfulness in their daily routines.

Gravity Hand Breathing is a small practice with a big impact, teaching our students the art of mindfulness and resilience.

By embedding mindfulness into daily routines, St. Lawrence High School & Junior College is equipping its students with lifelong skills to manage stress, cultivate inner peace, and thrive in every aspect of life. This initiative reflects the school’s commitment to holistic education — nurturing both the mind and heart, and preparing students to grow into resilient, mindful learners.
