Hundreds Join “Plogging” Run at Pandav Leni to Clean Historic Hills
“Be the change you want to see—start by picking up what others left behind.”
Early Saturday morning, ‘Nashik Ploggers’ along with students of St. Lawrence High School and Junior College gathered at the base of Nashik’s ancient Pandav Leni hills at 7.30am for a unique community initiative. It was a plogging run aimed at cleaning litter-strewn trails while promoting health and heritage preservation.
Plogging, a Swedish-origin term combining “jogging” with “plocka upp” (to pick up), encourages students to collect plastic and other waste during a run.
Around 50+ volunteers including our enthusiastic students and teachers showed great zest about combining fitness with environmentalism.
Participants jogged the well-trodden trail, stopping every few meters to pick up discarded plastic bottles, snack wrappers, and old pamphlets. Trash was segregated on-site into recyclables and non-recyclables.
Based on the positive turnout and impact, volunteers have proposed a monthly schedule—rotating plogging locations to include other Nashik landmarks.
As part of the clean-up campaign, students expressed their thoughts on the experience of the plogging activity .
