“Awareness is the first step to hygiene, dignity, and confidence.”
A special awareness programme on Menstruation and Hygiene was organized at St Lawrence High School and Junior College for the girls of Grade 6.
The session aimed to educate young girls about menstrual health, hygiene practices, and to break the silence and stigma associated with this natural biological process.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Ranjit Mehta and Dr. Nanda Mehta, who interacted with the students in a friendly and respectful manner. The session began with a simple explanation of menstruation – what it is, why it happens, and how it is a normal part of growing up.
The doctors highlighted the importance of:
• Maintaining personal hygiene during menstruation
• Using clean and safe sanitary products
• Changing pads regularly
• Proper disposal of used sanitary napkins
• Eating a healthy diet and staying active The girls were encouraged to ask questions without hesitation. Many of them shared their doubts and experiences, which were addressed with empathy and clarity. The session proved to be informative and empowering. It helped the girls understand their bodies better and encouraged them to speak openly about menstruation.
