Story sessions and Life lessons at St Lawrence High School and Junior College
A joyful Kathalaya storytelling session was conducted for the Grade 1 students of St. Lawrence High School and Junior College. The teachers narrated two beautiful and interesting stories titled “The Sunshine” and “The Big Enormous Turnip.”
The first story, “The Sunshine,” was about a little girl named Katherine who loved her grandmother very much. Her grandmother’s room was in the corner of the house where sunlight could not reach. Katherine wanted to bring sunshine into her grandmother’s room so that it would become bright and cheerful. Through the story, students learned about love, care, and kindness towards elders.
The second story, “The Big Enormous Turnip,” was about an old man who planted a turnip in his garden. The turnip grew very big and enormous. When the old man tried to pull it out, he could not do it alone. He called the old woman for help, then the granddaughter, the dog, the cat, and finally the mouse. Together they pulled the turnip with teamwork and finally succeeded. This story taught the children the importance of teamwork and helping each other.
The students listened to the stories with great interest and enthusiasm. They enjoyed the expressions, actions, and lively narration during the storytelling.
The Kathalaya session helped the children improve their listening skills, imagination, and understanding of good values. Overall, it was a fun-filled and meaningful storytelling session, and the Grade 1 students thoroughly enjoyed learning through these wonderful stories.
