Good touch and Bad touch taught at St. Lawrence High School and Junior College

“Wisdom is giving the children their wings, along with the rudder of awareness to keep them safe from prying hands.” -Yamini Vijendran

At St Lawrence High School and Junior College, the Grade 3 students were involved in a very important session learning about appropriate and inappropriate touch. The key objective of this lesson was to ensure that each child understands personal safety, and always stays cautious and alert about their own self.

Students were shown awareness videos and real life scenarios which made them learn the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touch. Hence, the students became knowledgeable about which touch feels safe, loving and respectful and which touch which feels uncomfortable, scary and wrong.

In addition, the teachers highlighted the importance of recognising the private parts of the body which no one can touch without permission. The students were taught to say “No” with confidence, run away from the person and to share the truth with the adults they trust immediately – without feeling guilty or ashamed.

This session helped the students understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touch and how to be safe in any situation.
