Shapes and how they “shape” children at St Lawrence High School and Junior College
At St. Lawrence High School and Junior College, our Grade 1 students stepped into the exciting world of shapes. They discovered that shapes are not just in books—they are all around us! From the round sun in the sky, the triangular pizza slice, to the rectangular door, children realized that everything has a shape.
Through hands-on activities, students learned to identify plane shapes like circles, squares, and triangles, and also explored solid shapes such as cubes, spheres, cones, and cylinders. They enjoyed observing, comparing, and even creating figures using different shapes.
Learning about shapes helps children sharpen their observation, memory, and problem-solving skills, while also laying a strong foundation for math, art, and creativity.
Our curious learners had great fun recognizing shapes in everyday objects, and this activity encouraged them to see the world with fresh eyes.
