Clothes and their Cultural-Climatic connections at St Lawrence High School and Junior College

“Clothes mean nothing until someone lives in them.” – Marc Jacobs

At St. Lawrence High School and Junior College, our Grade 2 students learnt about the topic ‘Clothes We Wear’ through an engaging and interactive session. The session was conducted to help children understand the importance of clothes in our daily lives, how different fabrics are made, and why we wear certain clothes in different seasons. A presentation  and video were shown in the AV Room to make learning fun and easy. Teachers dressed in traditional clothes from various states, helping students appreciate the beauty of Indian attire and learn about the cultural and seasonal significance of different fabrics.

Students also connected this topic with environmental awareness by learning about the Three R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. They took up a creative challenge of transforming an old T-shirt into a useful carry bag, discovering how reusing materials helps protect our planet. Through this activity, the young learners understood that every fabric has its own importance and that respecting our culture, traditions, and environment makes us responsible citizens of tomorrow.
