Grade 2 EVS Food we eat

The Grade 2 encounter with Food we Eat

“Food is not rational. Food is culture, habit, craving and identity.” – Jonathan Safran Foer

At St. Lawrence High School and Junior College, our Grade 2 children explored the topic “Food We Eat”. They learned about the two sources of food – plants and animals – and the three important types of food: energy-giving, body-building, and protective food. All children learnt that all these kinds of food must be included in meals to stay strong and healthy. As a hands-on activity, the children brought protein-rich food in their tiffin along with a plate, bowl, and spoon. They enjoyed sharing their meals with friends, identified the kinds of food they had brought, and realized the importance of eating a balanced diet. This session was conducted to encourage children to follow healthy eating habits and to understand the value of three proper meals a day
