Fractions Come Alive at St Lawrence

Math is fun when you learn by doing!
Our Grade 4 students at St Lawrence High School and Junior College turned Math into play while mastering fractions.

Using Rummy counters, they broke wholes into parts and understood halves, quarters, and more. With paper folding, they created halves and quarters instantly. Through shape activities, they became creative fraction artists by dividing circles, rectangles and triangles into different fractional parts.

Learning was hands-on, fun, and full of “aha!” moments. Our young mathematicians not only cracked fractions but also built strong problem-solving and teamwork skills through these activities.

These activities helped our students see that fractions aren’t just numbers in a book — they’re part of everyday life. By touching, folding, and building fractions, students developed a clear, visual understanding of how parts make up a whole.

Now they can connect Math to real life: sharing a pizza equally with friends, measuring ingredients while cooking with parents, or dividing playtime fairly. Learning fractions this way built their confidence and showed them how Math is useful beyond the classroom.
