An “epic” encounter with the Mahabharata!
At St. Lawrence High School & Junior College, Grade 1 students are diving into the epic tales of India, starting with the Mahabharata. Today, they learned about the pivotal moment when Arjun wins Draupadi’s hand in marriage.
The lesson focused on the grand swayamvara organized by Draupadi’s father to find a worthy husband. Many princes and warriors attempted to string a powerful bow and hit a rotating fish’s eye—an impossible task. Among them, Arjun, disguised as a Brahmin, stood out. With unmatched skill, he strung the bow and made the perfect shot, winning Draupadi’s heart.
Through this story, students learned key values:
Recognition: Arjun’s victory highlighted his prowess.
Inner Strength: His focus showed his determination.
Humility: His disguise symbolized modesty.
Self-Control: His calmness under pressure was a lesson in discipline.
The students were fully engaged, embracing the story’s lessons of strength and wisdom.
