Bridging Cultures: A Virtual Journey to Japan
“Sometimes it’s the journey that teaches you about your destination.”
At St. Lawrence High School and Junior College, we believe in the transformative power of cultural awareness. Recently, our Grade 3 students embarked on a virtual exploration of Japan, delving into its rich heritage and diverse perspectives.
During this immersive experience, students learned about Japan’s geography, from its iconic Mount Fuji to its vibrant cities. They discovered the significance of the national sport, flower, currency, and flag, gaining insights into the traditions that shape Japanese identity. Through interactive lessons, students were introduced to the Japanese language, cultural attire, and the various religions practiced in this fascinating country.
The goal of this initiative was to foster empathy, compassion, and respect among our young learners. By understanding and appreciating different cultures, students are not only enriching their own lives but also cultivating essential character traits that will serve them well in an interconnected world. This journey encourages them to embrace diversity and resist the impulse to judge others based on cultural differences.
At St. Lawrence, we are committed to nurturing global citizens who are open-minded and ready to engage with the complexities of the world.
