Cube and Cube Root Fun: A Hands-On Learning Experience “Mathematics is not about numbers, it’s about patterns.” – Carl Sagan
The Mathematics department of St. Lawrence High School & Junior College recently organised a captivating activity for grade 8 students to solidify their understanding of cubes and cube roots. The primary objective was to transform the often-perceived dry subject of mathematics into an engaging and enjoyable learning experience. Students were encouraged to create colorful wheels, one side displaying cubes and the other showcasing their corresponding cube roots. The wheels were designed to be rotated, allowing students to visually match cubes with their roots. This interactive approach not only reinforced mathematical concepts but also fostered a sense of accomplishment and curiosity. The activity proved to be a resounding success, with students enthusiastically participating and demonstrating a newfound appreciation for mathematics. By making learning a hands-on and visually appealing experience, the Mathematics department at St. Lawrence High School & Junior College has taken a significant step towards inspiring a love of numbers and problem-solving in their students.
