Bharatanatyam, one of India’s oldest and most revered classical dance forms, has been mesmerizing audiences for centuries with its captivating blend of technique, expression and storytelling. Originating in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, this ancient art form has evolved into a vibrant and dynamic expression of Indian culture.

To learn more about this classical dance form of India, we at St. Lawrence High School and Jr College showed our grade 1 children different pictures and videos related to the dance form. Right from the attire to the jewellery and makeup and postures, every little thing was discussed with the students. Their curious minds were full of amazement to see the beauty in every frame.

They especially loved trying to do the mudras of the dance form and realised how much effort goes into learning this historical cultural marvel. This session was a unique one wherein the history and ancient culture of our country was taught to the children through such a dynamic art form. Each child was taught how to cherish the rich storehouse of art in their motherland.
