Phonics fun at St Lawrence High School and Junior College!

“The purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.”

We at St.Lawrence High School and Junior College know the importance of speaking the English language fluently; that’s why we introduced a new subject – Phonics – to benefit our future minds.

From the last two years our students have been learning the proper sounds of the letters and the spelling rules to form correct spellings in English, which has benefited them majorly.

Phonics provides primary students with a strong foundation for reading by teaching them to connect letter sounds, which significantly improves their decoding skills, spelling accuracy, vocabulary development, and overall reading comprehension, ultimately encouraging independent reading and boosting confidence in their abilities.

Phonics also helps children break down words into individual sounds, enabling them to sound out and read unfamiliar words independently.

Successfully decoding words using phonics builds confidence and motivation to read more.

When children can easily decode words, they are more likely to enjoy reading for pleasure. With this aim we at St.Lawrence thrive for a better future.
