The fun festivals of India!

India is a land of diverse cultures and festivals, each with its unique significance and traditions. To explore the rich cultural heritage of India at St. Lawrence High School and Junior College, the Grade 1 students and teachers embarked on an exciting journey.

All students learnt that Onam and Baisakhi share common themes of harvest and new beginnings. They celebrate the bounty of nature, the hard work of farmers, and the renewal of life. These festivals also highlight the importance of community, family, and cultural heritage.

Our teachers dressed up in traditional attires of Kerala and Punjab, wearing beautiful sarees and dhotis in bright colors and intricate designs, vibrant turbans, kurta pyjamas, and phulkari dupattas. They looked like true Malayalis and Punjabis ready to celebrate Onam and Baisakhi with full zeal.

This activity taught all children to pride their cultural heritage and respect and celebrate it. The students were thrilled to see their teachers in colorful costumes and enjoyed learning about the festivals through this unique approach.
