It has been rightly said that celebrating Independence Day is not merely a commemoration of liberty achieved, but a reaffirmation of the social contract that transforms abstract rights into lived responsibilities. The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with a lot of fervor at St. Lawrence High School & Jr. College on the theme ‘Rights to Responsibilities.’ The students of grade 9 expressed their opinions on the theme reiterating the fact that being responsible begins from school life itself. As usual, the school choir, the Lawrentian Symphony touched our souls with their melodious songs. Putting the stage on fire was the school dance troupe who raised our spirits higher with their energetic performance.

Taking us back in time to the year 1930 were the students of grade 7 who role played the scene of ‘The Courtroom of Bhagat Singh’. Also, paying a tribute to our martyred soldiers Shourya Singh presented a powerful hindi poem. The event ended with the guidance of our trustee, Col. Vijay Kumar Datta who motivated the students to do their best wherever and whatever they are doing which will contribute to the development of the nation.

Through this event, it was our endeavor to help our students understand the value of fulfilling our responsibilities along with enjoying our rights and that our beloved nation will only flourish when all of us do our bit.  Someone has correctly said that true freedom is never a static gift; it is a continuous commitment. On this Independence Day, we reflect on the essential truth that every right we cherish is guarded by the responsibilities we uphold.
