A Creative Language Adventure: Grade 4 Students Build Their Own Dictionaries
As Daisaku Ikeda said, “Youth is the time for adventure, for exploring new horizons, for challenging the unknown.”
At St. Lawrence High School and Junior College, Grade 4 students embarked on a fun and interactive language-learning journey—creating their own dictionaries! This innovative activity enhanced their vocabulary, research skills, and creativity.
Inspired by the chapter “The Scholar’s Mother Tongue,” students selected words, researched their meanings in both English and their mother tongue, and organized them into personalized dictionaries. They also illustrated their work, making the learning experience even more engaging.
Beyond expanding their vocabulary, this activity fostered critical thinking, organization, and a sense of accomplishment. Excited by their progress, students look forward to continuing their dictionary journey, enriching their language skills along the way.
At St. Lawrence, learning isn’t just about textbooks—it’s about creativity, exploration, and making knowledge truly their own.
