From Farm to Plate: A Fun Lesson on Healthy Eating”

St. Lawrence High School and Junior College recently hosted an exciting, hands-on activity to teach students about the importance of fruits and vegetables. The highlight of the event was a vibrant vegetable shop set up in the classroom, where one student took on the role of a lively vendor, offering fresh produce to their peers.

The classroom marketplace, stocked with colourful fruits and vegetables, allowed students to engage directly with the vendor, learning the names, colours and health benefits of different foods as they “purchased” items. The activity not only brought the lesson to life but also emphasised the importance of eating a variety of fruits and vegetables for a healthy, balanced diet.

Through this interactive experience, students not only learned about nutrition but also practised valuable social skills, such as polite conversation and basic commerce.

By blending education with play, the activity made the concept of healthy eating both enjoyable and memorable, showing how learning beyond the textbook can be both effective and fun.
