Little budding chemists at St Lawrence High School!
At St. Lawrence High School and Junior College the students of Grade 4 made a natural mosquito repellent keeping its importance in mind. The prime benefit of using a natural mosquito repellent is that it is free of any harmful chemicals. It doesn’t contain DEET – an active chemical found in artificial mosquito repellents.
Being chemical-free makes it safe for use on people of all ages especially babies and also doesn’t cause any skin reactions. Trying an essential oil, for instance, as a herbal mosquito repellent is good for your skin. It will not only repel mosquitoes and other bugs but will pamper your skin too.
The children loved experimenting with different natural oils and making their own concoctions of repellent. They mainly used edible oil, basil leaves and some lemon slices. They were show the procedure of making different concentrations of insect repellent and they determined to use natural repellents at home and spread its awareness in our surroundings.
Other mosquito repellents in the market often cause allergies to your skin or respiratory tract. Using natural mosquito repellents is not just cruelty-free, but eco-friendly too. They release no harmful fumes or carbon that disturbs the greenhouse effect on our planet.
