Maths and measurements at St Lawrence High School and Junior College!
The grade1 & grade 4 Lawrentians took part in an activity based on the measurement of capacity and volume and each child was enthusiastically involved in every step of the game! The students used different kinds of measuring jugs, mugs, buckets and different kinds of dippers having different capacities.
This activity allowed the students to learn to quantify the amount of space an object or substance occupies, which helped them grasp how physical objects relate to the space around them.
Even though this was a Math session it helped in honing their life skills for real life application like cooking, construction, packaging and science experiments, where accurate measurements are important.
They also developed their critical thinking skills as they worked through problems related to volume, such as calculating the amount of liquid that can fit in a container or determining how much space an object occupies.
