“Plants Around Us: Grade 2 Students Discover Nature’s Gifts”
“Plants are the earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.” – Rabindranath Tagore
At St. Lawrence High School & Junior College, Grade 2 students explored the fascinating world of plants, learning about their types, parts, and significance.
The students discovered that plants come in all shapes and sizes, from small shrubs to towering trees. During a visit to the school’s botanical garden, they observed and touched different types of plants, deepening their understanding of the natural world.
Through the lesson, students were excited to learn that every part of a plant—roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits—plays an important role and is often a source of food. They also discovered the countless ways plants benefit daily life, from providing oxygen to giving us fruits, vegetables, and other essential resources.
The activity encouraged gratitude towards trees, highlighting their critical role in sustaining life on Earth. This lesson not only nurtured curiosity but also inspired the students to appreciate and protect the plants around them.
