“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader” – Margaret Fuller
The Grade 1 students of St. Lawrence High School and Junior college enjoyed a new activity called – Buddy Reading. It is a strategy designed to help students build fluency by reading aloud to each other.
They all read a variety of books and this helped them to build their listening skills, confidence to read aloud and the ability to work better in pairs. Reading with a partner made their reading experience more engaging and interactive. They also helped each other wherever required, thus increasing their co-operation and compassion towards peers.
Moreover, each student took back so many different things from the same story – almost as if there are multiple versions of a single tale. Such activities foster many values and skills in children while also increasing their creativity and imagination as they come into contact with various stories.
